The Purpose of an English Business Memo
Business memos have two main purposes that you must include when writing any good business memo. They are:
- to make people aware of a problem or issue,
- (for example, a change in company rules, a new time for a meeting, a staff change, important upcoming dates).
and
- to provide a possible solution or required action for the reader
- (for example, update personal work schedules, change calendar, greet new staff members, put new dates into work schedule)
These two items are the main reason for writing a memo. To quickly, and effeciently provide a reader with important information about a problem/issue in the business and then give them a solution or a specific action that they must do. This is the job of a business memo.
When you write a a good business memo will reach these two goals by following the proper stucture or proper format of a business memo. We will look in more detail at the strucure of a business memo in a future post, so come back and look for more information.
Also, a properly written memo will make sure that the purpose of the writer matches the responsibilities and needs of the readers.
You don't want to send your memo to the wrong people. That is what the next post will be all about. The proper audience for a memo.
